Frequently Asked Questions – Mediclaim Calculator
What is Mediclaim insurance?
Mediclaim is a type of health insurance that covers hospitalization expenses, surgery, and treatment costs. It reimburses or directly pays hospitals for medical expenses incurred due to illness or accident.
How much health insurance coverage do I need?
For a family of 4 in Tier-1 city like Surat, a minimum of ₹5-10 lakh family floater is recommended. Medical inflation is ~15% per year, so opt for a higher sum insured if budget permits. You can also add a Super Top-Up plan for additional coverage at low cost.
What is a Family Floater health insurance plan?
A Family Floater plan covers the entire family (self, spouse, children, parents) under a single sum insured. The premium is lower than buying individual policies for each member. If one member uses the full cover, others can also access the remaining amount during the policy year.
What is a Super Top-Up health plan?
A Super Top-Up plan provides additional coverage beyond your base health insurance policy. For example, if you have a ₹5 lakh policy and a ₹20 lakh Super Top-Up (deductible ₹5 lakh), any claim above ₹5 lakh will be covered by the top-up — at a very low premium.
Does pre-existing disease affect my health insurance premium?
Yes, pre-existing conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease increase premiums and come with a waiting period of 2-4 years before those specific conditions are covered. However, B-Wealth advisors can help you find insurers with shorter waiting periods and competitive premiums.
Can I get tax benefit on mediclaim premium?
Yes! Under Section 80D of Income Tax Act, you can claim deduction up to ₹25,000/year for self, spouse & children, and additional ₹25,000 for parents (₹50,000 if senior citizens). This means up to ₹75,000 tax deduction annually on health insurance premiums.
